Rainy Day Activities in Tasmania: Indoor Options in Hobart and Launceston

Tasmania's temperate climate means wet days are a regular occurrence, particularly in Hobart's southern and western exposure. The Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) is the most extraordinary wet-day destination in Tasmania, entirely underground and entirely weather-proof, with a collection that is world-class and provocative in equal measure. The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) on Dunn Place in Hobart has free entry and strong natural history, convict history and First Nations collections. The State Library of Tasmania on Murray Street is one of the finest reading room spaces in Australia. The Salamanca Arts Centre is partially covered and runs gallery exhibitions. In Launceston, the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery at Royal Park is free and has significant natural history, Chinese joss house and contemporary art collections.
